Given how much I hated the only other Liane Moriarty book I listened to, it almost feels like I loved this one. I found it entertaining and enjoyable, and appreciated the slow build up and character arcs. I'll probably give it another year or so before I read another of hers because I still feel like the trashiness relies somewhat on misogyny (oh my the crazy ladies and former strippers!) but that's better than the "never again!" I was shouting from the roof tops last time.

I've come to the realization that Moriarty's book are just not for me. The main problem with this book is that the going back and forth in time to tell the story simply doesn't work. In my opinion, it would have read better if Moriarty had just told the story outright. The other issue that I have with the book is that the author tries to layer on too many themes in regard to the development of the characters. I have read several of Liane Moriarty’s books and this one was heavier than most. It had some really colorful characters and they all have their own quirks and struggles. There are marriage problems, mental illness, infertility and post-traumatic shock. Even the friendships have strains. It’s a cleverly written story and I loved certain characters, like Vid. Overall 3.5 stars.

Meh. It was engaging enough with a mid twist and a final zinger. I have highly enjoyed other reads of Liane Moriarty. I now understand why this one has less accolades. The length was too long and the characters relationships too detailed to tie into the final plot twist—at least in my humble opinion. Usually I like a book not to end. I was relieved when this one was over.
