3.5 stars. What a strange book. Beautifully written, there's no question Baume is a talented writer. It kept me mesmerized, even though as I read, I kept thinking to myself the whole time that many would probably consider it boring. You're inside the main character's head throughout, and it's a strange place. As the book begins, you think he's a bit of an oddball who finds an oddball dog, and you expect a heartwarming read.

Beautifully written, like nothing I've ever read (and I've read A LOT). I don't really know how to describe it, a very powerful story, emotional, memorable, haunting, unsettling.
