Interesting book about Mali. Fascinating history of scholarship in that area of the world, and the infuriating current threat of religious fanatics who would like to eradicate its traces. I got sidetracked numerous times searching for more information online, especially re The Festival in the Desert, Taureg music and Tinariwen.
