This is the first time I have ever read or heard of the Persian epic poem, The Conference of the Birds. This version of the poem is a visual masterpiece. The words are sparse but the artwork speaks volumes. The story begins when Attar dreams he is a hoopoe bird and calls a gathering of all the birds in the world. This is a philosophical collection of poems about 30 birds who set out on a journey to find their mythical leader. The book is full of stories and poems each confirming Attar’s point or discuss the issues we may each experience in our lives.
One of the best literary works I have read so far. I’ve read this book in its original language (Persian) on and off in previous years, but this time I did understand more of what Attar is trying to say. And oh I loved it!
