This book has given me reader's block.
It was so beautifully written, the characters so engaging, the premise absolutely fascinating...it was the Perfect Book and now I'm having a hard time picking up another book without immediately putting it back down because it can't quite compare.
I found myself reading and rereading so many sentences/paragraphs/pages, not because I was distracted or bored (as would be the case of rereading such things in other books) but because they were so magically wrough ...more

Enjoyed the book more and more as it progressed, probably because I also love Casablanca.
Towles has created a world within an insular world of a single hotel--and done it with panache. Full-bodied characters with idiosyncrasies & foibles--along with buckets of wit & charm. Great story that unfolds over many years with twists & turns. Borrowed from the library; read on iPad.
