Love Letters to the Dead was an Addicted to YA Book of the Month for June 2014. I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The story unfolds through a series of letters written by the narrator as an English class assignment. The letters are addressed to several people who are now deceased (many died young). The girl is struggling with the death of her sister while also trying to deny her own personal trauma and fit in at a new school. (view spoiler) ...more

I am really unimpressed. In general I am not against letter-novels but in this case, the letters were bothering me. I just couldn't find the reading flow.
Also the story was rather boring and I wasn't really touched. What a pity, the cover is so beautiful!

This had a Perks of a Wallflower vibe but the characters weren't as likeable. However, every character was fascinating and the writing was completely beautiful. This book was kind of a tearjerker in my opinion and it also taught me some stuff about dead celebrities personal lives that I didn't know which was neat I like knowledge being dropped on me lol. I would recommend you read this if you like moving, thought-provoking, & sad contemporaries. ...more

Laurel’s English teacher assigns it---write a letter to a dead person---but Laurel takes the assignment and runs with it. For Laurel is a girl with troubles: her sister is dead, her mother has taken off, and her father won’t talk much. It’s the letter writing assignment that helps Laurel come to terms with her sister’s death and helps bring her family back to life.
