What an excellent story! In 1819, famous chef Owen Wedgewood is employed for a business man in London when his employer is murdered before his eyes, he is suddenly kidnapped by a pirate, and subsequently forced to cook for her on her pirate ship or else face death. As the story unfolds, Owen learns how to stay alive and along the way, learns what type of business his previous employer was really engaged in. One of the best pirate stories I've ever read, told in the same style as those other pirate/sea story greats known as Treasure Island and Gulliver's Travels, but with its own unique bits and pieces. A great combo of adventure, historical fiction, and romance with wonderful, unique characters that you will not want to put it down until you finish it. ...more

I was listening to this book on audio, and I think this was part of the problem. I didn't really get into it until the last 3 hours or so. The story was really REALLY unique, which was pretty refreshing. I think the characters were pretty compelling, and the final plot twists were pretty cool. ...more
