This is my second Tropper book. I love this author's style of sarcasm and wit, and definitely laughed out loud in the car a lot (audio version ). But the family was just too dysfunctional and the marriage too sad for me to really love it. Strongly preferred Book of Joe.
Just watched the movie and loved it!! All the absurdity of the family relationships were actually charming in the movie. Usually I think the books are better, but this time I liked the movie better. ...more

Some parts are funny, some parts are raunchy. The book club was able to talk about their own experiences of sitting Shiva. Most felt this was an enjoyable read, but no one could figure out if the target audience was for females or males and felt like that was a weakness of the book. Some parts of the book were simply unrealistic and made the book fall flat.

Great summer read - can't wait for the movie!
