Great book on audio. Poehler had a fairly normal upbringing, except we do learn later in the book that her dad was a pothead. Even so, Poehler says that he was a very nice person who always showed up early to pick her up from places (probably so he could veg out and listen to the radio or stare into space while waiting).

I really like Amy Poehler, but I could not force myself to finish this book. It was so boring! I kept hoping it would get better and finally I just had to close the book and donate it. And a lot of the reviews on Amazon said it was so hilarious. I expected this to be funny and heartfelt and inspirational and it was none of these.

Reread: really wonderful for my mental space. Recommend listening.
This isn't the best book, but it is incredibly important for my current mental space and spoke to me on a deep level. I also just finished "Parks and Rec" a mere day before finishing this, and no longer having Amy Poehler in my life on a regular basis has unleashed a torrent of emotions.

Surprisingly, Amy and I have several things in common: it is better to think about what you don't want to do or study than focus on what do you want to do for the rest of your life; there is nothing wrong with hiring someone to take care of your house or your baby even if you don't work outside the house; we love Tina Fey and Seth Meyers and every mother needs a wife! And I love this: There are so many people in the world with so little. Who cares why you decide to help?

Sorry, I love Amy Poehler, but this book is just a mismash of anecdotes with nothing to say. I'll watch Amy in a TV series, in a movie, hosting the Golden Globes ... but I can't finish this book.
