Okay, so, I did not like this. I forced myself to finish it. I think the best way to describe the book is: (a) this is Okorafor's angry reaction to the movie District 9, and (b) this is a satire of Nigeria in the early 21st century. I generally don't like satires, which may go a long way to explaining why I didn't like this book.

Lagoon is a delightfully sprawling book, weaving more than a dozen characters - including a swordfish and a highway - into an innovative first contact novel. Though it doesn't go as deep as some of her other work, it's inventive, refreshing, and a very fun read, with some really good prose sprinkled throughout.
