I liked this book. Although it reminded me of other series like Harry Potter and Ender, it was different enough for me to enjoy the story. Mythology is cool! I found the story fun and all of the references to themes from mythology and its characters to be pretty cool. Plus, there was lots of action and even some witty lines that made me laugh out loud.

This gets a higher score just because it was so enjoyable to read it aloud to my kid. Without that the score would have been a lot lower - it's a great story but each chapter had too many bells and whistles, making it harder to really get into the characters and book. I blinked and Zachary finished the second one on his own, so I'll probably skip ahead to book three as well.

Definitely has a lot in it to appeal to kids, and there's some humor in there for their parents as well. An interesting way to get kids into Greek mythology, and a fast and entertaining read that's sure to make it to the big screen.
