Loses a little something as Flavia's world gets more complex and she leaves her familiar Buckshaw surroundings, but depending on where Bradley goes with it, could make for an interesting bridge tale as his pint-sized sleuth starts to grapple with increasing maturity. ...more

This mystery had so many twists and turns in it that I had no idea where it was going, and that was a good thing! I could not put this down until I saw where it all ended up! Alan Bradley and Flavia have done it again! I can't wait to see where they take us next. ...more

Flavia de Luce is back! The mystery that she faced now is actually one of the weakest in the series. But I like the setting of the story, in a girls boarding school in Canada. This reminds me of one of Agatha Christie's story, Cat Among the Pigeons, with the suspicious students, teachers, and secret nooks and crannies between the rooms at school. I actually kinda miss Buckshaw, but Miss Bodycote's Female Academy can cure the craving of Flavia's old home. I just don't really understand why Alan B ...more

Alan Bradley's books are always well written and well plotted. I really enjoy the Flavia De Luce series, however, this was not my favorite book both because of the the changed setting (and her constant and distracting home sickness) and the never clearly explained mysterious goings-on at Miss Bodycotte's Academy. It is still worth reading, but it is not one of my favorites in the series. ...more
