A fascinating account of a young (naive) American Jewish lady who back in the early 19602 married an Afghan man who was studying in the US--and of the situation she found herself in when they returned to his family to live in Kabul. Oh my, was Chesler in for a rude awakening...she found herself basically held "prisoner" in a large, complex, & competitive family that didn't take kindly to her being the American bride. She also had a very weak stomach & couldn't take the Afghan cuisine, thus ended ...more
