I really liked this book. I kept thinking of Haruki Murakami throughout the book, so that is probably why I liked it. This is the first David Mitchell novel that I have read, and I can say that I will be reading more. It is basically six different stories that have slight connection until the last two stories. The stories run in chronological order, from 1984 into our future.

I loved this. The meaning of the title becomes clear only late in the book. Again from this author is an interwoven tale, told from six viewpoints all of which have a connection to one extraordinary person. It is strange enough to grab myinterest and hold it, complicated enough to have to think about the recurring personalities and when they were last encountered, memorable enough to return to my thoughts for days, and long enough to come to an end that actually fits. David Mitchell has this exemplary way of managing to be a horror-science fiction novelist in a NY Times world. His work fits a perfect medium between weird and sophisticated, so that you catch a glimpse of the otherworldly without sacrificing your high class literature status. He's a bit like Murakami Haruki and Kazuo Ishiguro that way.
