Hard to rate this book. Each time I really started to get into a character and enjoy the plot then the character and story would completely change. Sometimes I found myself not enjoying the current character or story at all, yet as the story progressed this book started to reveal itself. The long read was worth it. A creepy, sprawling, ultimately (view spoiler) mega-story, The Bone Clocks is clearly a cousin to Cloud Atlas. I couldn't help but compare the two. Both are told over the course of many years from the perspective of different narrators whose stories intertwine even as the world around collapses and evolves into a new age. This was my second read. I don't think my first read was all that attentive, possibly because I read Slade House first and was mainly looking to have some questions answered. Bone Clocks isn't for everyone--too grounded in reality for fantasy enthusiasts and too whimsical for folks who like their realism straight. An interpretation of the fantasy bits as only happening in protagonist Holly Sykes's head won't feel satisfying, and the jumps in time and narration are intentionally unmooring. This n
