I really wanted to like this book and there is a lot to like about it. The author creates a fantastic and believable world of magic in 18th century England. It's an amazing feat of imagination.
But the book is so full of what seem like extraneous and distracting details of the magic that they interrupted the flow of the story for me at every turn. The story of two magicians who are destined to bring magic back to England. The first third of this book really drags. The next third picks up in places with Strange finally comign into the story but still pretty slow. The last third was interesting and the plot did get wrapped up but it took way too long to get to that point.
