There is nothing better than finding a new series that is a mile long and connecting with it immediately. A wizard detective walks among us, ladies and gentlemen. And he's funny! And he has an even funnier assistant. This is supposed to be the weakest in the series, and if so, I'm in for a treat.

Oh, did I mention the audio is fantastic? I'd have finished this sooner but for the constant rewinding so I could laugh out loud again.

Not saying the whole book is a barrel of laughs by any means, and ...more

I'm a sucker for supernatural mysteries, and this was an enjoyable enough diversion. I received a box set of the first three Harry Dresden books last Christmas, so I'll definitely read the next two. But I can't tell yet if I'll be tempted to continue with the series beyond that. Butcher is good at building suspense and making one feel his characters are in real jeopardy. ...more

it was a quick listen, but one I enjoyed immensely. The character was at once an oddball, but a lovable oddball. I liked his quirky sense of humor, and I liked the narrator's voice for Harry Dresden even more than I liked what I would have come up with in my head.

The world building came easily to my grasp, I loved the magic and monsters running around Chicago. Just a fun read, perfect for the blustery November evenings that I read it on. ...more
