This one was just okay for me. A PI meets wizards. The main character and author had a weird tone throughout towards all the female characters, which are all oddly all sexualized somehow. The madonna/whore complex seems strong too, as we literally meet either prostitutes/vampire-madame or a domestic violence survivor/super hard boiled detective/hard-hitting journalist. This book should have been brilliant, but I found it to be somewhat pedestrian. There were moments of humour, moments of cleverness and suspense, but they didn't hang together enough for me. Harry engendered sympathy because of the unjust situation he was in with the White Council, but I thought Bob the Skull was more interesting. I finished it, but at no stage was it un-put-downable.

Harry Dresden is a wizard private investigator. He gets called in by the police to assist in solving two gruesome murders. He has also been hired by a woman to find her missing husband. I really enjoyed this book and will definitely read more in this series.
Loved this fast paced book. Harry Dresden is a good Wizard, trying to find out who is killing people in the manner that only a wizard could.
