I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book, and really I can't put my finger on WHY I loved it even more than the rest of the Pink Carnation series, but I did. Perhaps the author was energized by the change in scenery (this one is set in India), perhaps I just liked the heroine, Penelope, more than the other heroines, perhaps it was the hero, Alex Reid. One quibble: I would have liked to know Lord Staines better - he was a bit too two-dimensional. And it may be that two-dimensional quality ...more

Reading this one was like riding a rollercoaster that takes forever to get to the top and then when it drops it does one loop-de-loop and the ride is over. While another interesting story, it took a while to pick up speed and didn't get exciting until the last quarter of the book. (view spoiler) ...more

This series is something of a guilty pleasure for me - there's nothing deeply literary here, but I like the historical accuracy spiced with largely ridiculous derring-do for the entertainment factor. ...more
