At first I thought I would not like this memoir - a twenty something girl with a less than perfect relationship with her own mother, works as a nanny in Australia?? But I loved the author's tone of voice, the way she constantly reflects on what her mother would do or say in any situation, and her quirky little musings on life. I ended up really enjoying the book - and of course it made me really appreciate my own mother and thinking how she would approach the same situations.

Where does a memoirist go after she has told her story? Perhaps she can go back and tell a little more?

I remember thinking when I read "The Middle Place"-where is her mom? Now I know!Reminds me to be aware and appreciate my mother's wisdom.
