I really enjoyed this book. I couldn't put it down. I avoided real life so that I could keep reading. I stayed way too late so I could finish it.

I don't know why it's not shelved as a romance at my library; maybe because it's not a typical romance. It's more of a Shakespearean tragic romance. Kind of a Tristan and Isolde romance, but no kings and no potions, and a lot of other stuff is different too.

Somewhat unusually for Willig, here the contemporary story offers more interest than the historical one. I don't think it's entirely that it's a different time period than her Pink Carnation series as she's worked successfully in the 1900-1930 stretch, but her past-tense heroine feels a little flat and underdeveloped. ...more
