Set in 1988, against the running backdrop of the McGuire/Sosa chase for baseball's home run record, this assured second novel from Cash has a curiously familiar feel to it. 3.5 stars but for GR purposes, I'm bumping it because I would recommend it to others. Wiley Cash is going to be one of those authors whose books I eagerly await. I really fell in love with all of these characters (well, except for the bad guy, of course).

This was a 3.5 read for me.
A suspenseful sometimes meandering tale of three adults looking to rectify their past and two young sisters concerned over their dubious future. Twelve year old Esther and six year old Ruby have not seen their father for many years. I listened to this on audio, I only listen when I run or knit, so it takes me forever to finish, haha. I did enjoy these characters, except Pruitt...I also didn't enjoy his narrator, but I think that was on purpose as we are not supposed to like him perhaps?
