Many readers do not take Stephen King seriously as a writer, they complain that he is sophomoric, a inadequate author and deserves no respect. I happen to disagree. I am one of those readers who can not put down his books. To be fair, I only read his very best works, books like "Carrie" or "The Shining" and last year I was mesmerized by his "11/22/63." I found that this year, once again, I could not stop reading "Mr. Mercedes." In my opinion, Mr. King is a very good story teller.

Another psychological thriller by a master. I found myself thinking the book could have wound down more quickly, some of the characters seemed like odd choices for the task at hand - but I think that was what King may have been going for. I found the posse somewhat less credible as a result - but still - love King.

Bill Hodges is a retired cop in a deep depression until he receives a letter from the Mercedes Killer, a man who drove a stolen Mercedes into a line of people waiting for a job fair, killing 8. Bill takes on tracking Mr. Mercedes on his own with the eventual help of the sister of the owner of the Mercedes, Janey Patterson. A mystery/thriller without any horror/fantasy elements. The characters were well drawn and the killer is a real nut.
