First book of the Bill Hodges trilogy.
I really enjoyed this book. I was glad to see King veer away from a conventional horror novel to one where the villain's psyche mirrors those who engage in mass violence. Hodges is a retired cop who gets pulled into a case off the books due to a case on which he worked prior to his retirement. De Stephen King am citit până acum doar două cărți, aceasta fiind a treia. Mr. Mercedes had the compelling forward motion brought on by a likeably flawed investigator (much like Cormoran Strike in The Cuckoo's Calling with episodes of Criminal Minds-esque "wurd feelins" when entering the mind of a creepy bad guy. Not earth-shattering in plot or style, but entertaining in a slightly guilt-inducing way. I didn't realize it was a trilogy but would be happy to hang out the Det-Ret again. Not a book I could read over dinner.
