I thought this was going to be about the book selling profession and code use between post WWI German spies with books. It felt like the story was created surrounding a one-liner joke about books and their power. The prequel to this book, Parnassus On Wheels (same author), has better players than this book despite the characters returning in a minor role for The Haunted Bookshop.
