Eh, too many different story lines here. I loved the parts about Maggie and her friends and the aftermath of her Berlin "adventures" from the last book, but was less interested in the other threads (Roosevelt, Clara Hess, etc). Also, the Internment (mass incarceration of Japanese American community) gets a quick mention and I think MacNeal took a little creative license with the timeline there, for convenience. While MacNeal's simultaneous plots make sense from the perspective of historical accuracy, it feels a bit disjointed here as the parallel goings-on of Maggie's investigation into a murder connected to a friend and the looming attack on Pearl Harbor don't quite coalesce into a cohesive whole. The tidbits of her research are fascinating, but this one could have benefited from paring down the number of ideas and facts in favor of a more integrated storyline.
