Wow! I loved, loved, loved this book. Brown writes an incredible tale of the 9 young men who came together to be the best crew to ever row the 8-oar race. At the center of the tale is Joe Rantz, a boy who is abandoned by his family and finds that rowing will ultimately restore his faith in people. The other boys in the boat, the coach and even the man who built the boats that they rowed in, are integral to Brown's storytelling and are fascinating in their own right. Talk about dedication. The title characters are the personification of the word. The 1936 Olympics is well known for the participation of Jesse Owens, but there were some other Americans who did something pretty spectacular as well. I wonder how long it will take until they make a movie of this book.

A classic feel-good story, but so much more. Couldn't put it down.
