Cadence is the oldest grandchild in a rich family. All of the family spends each summer on a private island off of Cape Cod. Cadence spends most of her time with her cousins Johnny and Mirren along with Gat who is the nephew of one of her aunts boyfriends. Some sort of accident happens during her fifteenth summer on the island which leaves Cadence with debilitating headaches and amnesia. Most of the book involves cadence figuring out what happened. The writing style is very unique. Also I loved the setting, the lonely island where the rich family meets every summer. The characters are great. Simple, but interesting. The story is so calm, so full of thoughts. And that's all I say. I can recommend it! ...more

I can understand some of what Cadence feels when describing to Gat how bad it feels to deal with the pain she experiences. "You have no idea what it feels like to have headaches like this. No idea. It hurts […] It makes it hard to be alive, some days. A lot of times I wish I were dead, I truly do, just to make the pain stop."
