Remember when you couldn't tell your friends about the plots of the movies "The Usual Suspects" or "The Sixth Sense" (Am I dating myself here?) or you would ruin the whole experience for them? Well...

I will say this about We Were Liars...it is a quick story (I read it in one day) that keeps you guessing. Definitely a good summer read.

Entertaining. And good that I didn't know anything about it, knew none of the hype, not a bit of it.
I liked the writing fine, especially the dialogue among the Liars.
I read it in a couple of hours.

Its not pretentious or, at least, the characters are no more pretentious than anyone who owns a private island near Martha's vineyard would be. Why read if not to enter another world? The main character is actually very humble; that's why the ending is so surprising. ...more

I can understand some of what Cadence feels when describing to Gat how bad it feels to deal with the pain she experiences. "You have no idea what it feels like to have headaches like this. No idea. It hurts […] It makes it hard to be alive, some days. A lot of times I wish I were dead, I truly do, just to make the pain stop." The pain and migraines of a concussion are real and if one hasn't had a mTBI it might seem like a dramatic exaggeration, but it really can mess with your thinking and creat ...more

3.5 stars... guilty pleasure, I suspect forgettable, but a very enjoyable experience.

If you liked this, read The Secret History by Donna Tartt. Similar feel, but NOT forgettable.
