It's obviously genre but as I've said previously, a step above basic because I didn't mind the excessive descriptions at all. They add to bringing the characters and settings to life. I read about Eleanor in Book 5. It was nice to meet her in Book 1 so I could connect the dots.

No wonder Connelly is so highly regarded. He writes with flair and all the pieces fit together like a well designed jigsaw puzzle.
I'm not exactly certain why it took me so long to get to Connelly, as my mom's a big fan and he definitely writes in a style I enjoy - maybe he just got too ubiquitous for me to feel that sense of excitement I get at reading something great that hardly anyone seems to know about. At any rate, I'm glad I got over it - this is a great opener to the series and I'll be back to it again.
