There are a few easy ways to tell if a person loves a story. Sometimes the reader will want to read the book again. Sometimes the reader will tell others about the story. While I really liked the historical side of the story, the present day element felt more than a little forced and the characters were too flat, almost like caricatures, as if they were an afterthought. The foster mother, the housekeeper and the boyfriend were not portrayed the same way that the historical characters were. The dual timeline felt a bit forced.
