This book is pretty bad, but I didn't hate it. Hence, the two instead of one star. Some of the story made me laugh out loud, which I don't think was appropriate in light of the subject matter, but at times it was just so silly. An uncle gives a knife to his nephew whom he thinks may be a killer. Thereafter, the uncle finds a sliced up mouse in his basement. Flipping hilarious!

Definitely skip this one.

N.B. Murakami does pubic hair better.

The sister was manipulated by her husband and abuses drugs. The son just gets w ...more

A sordid, predictable story that did not hold my interest. The cover's pretty and the title is seductive. I gather it comes from a Wallace Stevens poem.
And another thing: naming a female character Nick makes the first few pages confusing enough to have to re-read.

Read this over the weekend. Keep waiting for something worthy of the hype. Nothing "wrong" with the story, just not that original or exciting either. ...more
