This book captivated me from the very beginning, and carried me through to the last minute. Maybe it's the way the narrators brought Puck and Sean to life, or maybe the layers of emotion in the story - another reviewer said something about this being a love story on several levels, and I'd agree. Instead of Werewolves, Stiefvater takes the Celtic myth of water horses and creates for them a hardscrabble island that has not much else going for it. The carnivorous horses seem strangely out of place in the story even though they are at the center of it. There is plenty of danger and romance and I enjoyed the double narration of the audiobook.

I love Maggie Stiefvater's prose. It's beautiful, lyrical, heart-breaking, and honest. I love the characters and the twists in the plot. The horses. Lord, the horses. This story will stay with me for a long time, I'm sure. ...more

An interesting take on Kelpie lore, with a strong sense of place. Very atmospheric.
