Read the abridged "Reader's Digest" version, folks - you won't miss anything but the sound of hours of your life flushing down the toilet.
The concept was interesting, but the book was light on plot and characterization and EXTREMELY heavy on scientific classification of flora/fauna of the ocean. I almost felt like Jules Verne had written this as a challenge to take a marine biologist's reference library and turn it into a story.
