There's a big, growing genre in YA right now: dystopian science fiction. Basically, it's bleak sci-fi set in a world that's often post-apocalyptic. Worlds that are ruled by totalitarian regimes, have strict laws about what can and can't be done. That sort of stuff. Picked up this book based on how much I liked Ness's book A Monster Calls.
This story is set on a world where a man's thoughts are broadcast for everyone else to hear. Note that I say "a man's thoughts" because women are evidently exempt from whatever caused this to happen. (Which makes me wonder... animal thoughts are broadcast too, but is that only male animals? This wasn't clarified.) Having your thoughts broadcast is fairly terrifying concept for me, and so makes for an interesting premise. ...more

This book had been recommended to me by a teacher. She really loved it, but unfortunately it not to my taste. I liked his character development, but in my opinion he took way, way too long to get to the end plot and I was listening to it on audio. So let's just say interesting, but a little too long in my opinion.
