If I just rated it on her writing style, it would get 4-5 stars, but Fitz's endless slog to Tradeford and then to find Verity was painful. There were some really interesting points that deserved more attention, such as the "old blood" and the episode at Tradeford. But no, Fitz had to get back to the woods or trail. And the poor guy gets beat to a bloody pulp at every turn. Rarely do we find any enjoyable or uplifting thread in the whole book. Was disapppointed in the action but the lady can writ

Last in the trilogy. FitzChivalry trying to serve his king, make a life for himself and steer clear of royal manipulation. All of that turns out to be pretty much impossible. An interesting take on how dragons come to be. Story moved nicely until the group sets off on the road to find the missing king. Then things really bogged down. The half to third quarter of the book was a complete drag. That trip down the magic road seemed to last forever!

It has been a long time since a book inspired this much emotion in me. The characters of this series are beautifully painted with words and I felt a strong connection to fitzChivalry and have to admit my eyes were a bit misty at the end of this series. Mrs. Hobb's world seems so much better than my own. I would recommend this Trilogy to anyone. It is truly a life changing story.

I almost listed this as a two star but the writing is too good to do that. Every book in this series left me feeling like was drugging through a desert in great need of water. I kept thinking I would finally get the water at the end, but no.
The characters are well written and the relationships for the most part are good. The romantic relationships are done well at all. And the only time any character can have something good happen for them it seems it must come at the expense of the lead charact ...more

Completely blew me away!
I suspect anyone who loves fiction knows what it feels like to live a story. And knows that some authors are better at drawing you in to their worlds than others are. Robin Hobb is a master at the art. It's been a long time since I last read a series, much less a book, that held me spellbound even while I was living outside the book. And now that I've turned the last page on the last book in the series, I find myself miserable at the knowledge that I now have to walk away ...more

i love this series!! i was only a tad bit disappointed that she didn't explain too much more about the old blood... but i started reading the next set of books with fitz (the tawny man trilogy) and see that she left that open for a reason - more books! =] loved it.
