Ok so I guess it looks like I have joined the Dresden Files a little late considering the number of books and short stories and even graphic novels there are out there but I guess having seen the TV series (which sadly was cancelled but I can see sort of didnt really fit well with the books anyway) and I was able to buy the first six books as a box set - meant that they sat on my shelf and missed out as other newer books grabbed my attention and demanded to be read (another one is the Weather Wa ...more

Storm Front is book one of the Dresden files. Jim Butcher's first major publication and launched his publishing career. This book would fall into the category of modern fantasy.

Summary: Harry Dresden. Wizard detective for hire.This story starts out with a struggling detective trying to pay the rent, keeping food on the table, and trying to stay out of trouble. Harry has to unravel the mystery of who murdered with magic.

The Dresden files has become one of my favorite fantasy series and by far my favorite urban fantasy series. It combines noir detective stories and the wizard story and puts it all in a world that feels like it won't fall apart if you look to carefully. (It might fall apart if the villains get their way but that's a different point.)

Pretty good start to the series,

Harry's character is intriguing in a sense and Butcher leaves room for improvement and the possibility for many magical things to occur.
