I finally picked up the Wheel of Time series because I was jonesing so hard for some ASOIAF-like fantasy world. I have to say...well, it's really nothing like ASOIAF, but of course it's unfair to compare the two series. Let's just talk about my impression of this one book.

Early on many encouraged me to read the WoT series; however, I have a personal rule about reading any book that is part of series unless all the volumes in that series have been published. I found the character development to be awkward and often it felt painstakenly slow only to suddenly be rushed into some revelation about the character that seemed out place. Even when a particular character did develop I don't think I ever found myself loving them which for me is often essential to how I will enjoy a book. Same with certain conflict resolutions that came far too easily and with a rushed, often inadequate, explanation.
