I think to really appreciate this book, you've got to do a little research (or reminiscing) on what computers and "the internet" was in 1992, when this book was written. It was before web browsers, long before wifi, before cell phones & pdas, before the first SMS message was sent. Much of what Stephenson portrays here is quite accurate, from the perspective of technological history. easily one of the best scifi's that i've ever read. this was absolutely amazing. this started out with a bang from the opening page. its the story of Hiro Protagonist, the best swordsman in the world, and one of the best VR programmers on the net. the plot is difficult to explain, but involves the use of Sumerian as a lanugage that is infecting people within a cult. stephenson brings a lot of sumerian, babylonian, and hebrew myth to the table, and is able to use something complex in a very simpl
