This book completely surprised me as I normally despise this crap. Jordan started good but bored me after a few books and Goodkind is just an utter failure at life. However, Martin drew me in with great characters and great story telling. I love that he was able to surprise me and keep me guessing until the last page. I'm hooked. ...more

This is the start of a grand adventure, where political intrigue, ambition and vendetta unfold like a Shakespearean epic against a fantasy backdrop. I read myself blind on this novel and blame it for going through three days of work in a barely conscious state. Be on your guard -- alliances shift, characters are offed with a refreshing callousness and shades of gray permeate all the major turns of plot.

I was positively fascinated with this book. While there are several different characters whom are in different areas. Its seem to not lose the forward momentum of the book and even in places weaving the stories together. I cant wait to start the next book.
