Fantastic! The movie only covers the first half of the book. The second half (no hint of it in the movie) was the more thought-provoking and interesting part of the story. In it, Bastian, as the Savior of Fantastica, makes wishes to form a new world, but with every wish he makes, he forgets part of himself. The transformation of his character is haunting. This is a quick read, and I have a feeling I'll reread it again.

I'd remembered the first part of the story well enough - but had forgotten the morality tale experiences Bastian went thru in the rest of the novel.
Still a good read, tho perhaps not as moving as when I was young. I missed the red vs green text of the copy I read as a child - the paperback used italics for the frame story. ...more
