*Soul-saddened SIGH*.....Damn, damn, DAMN...life can really be full of suck.
This book really torched my hopes and dreams. NOT because it was nightmarishly horrible (which it wasn’t) but because I wanted it to be so brimming with steaming chunks of mouth-watering awesome that I could write a stinging, snark-filled “anti-anti-Thomas Covenant” review...my rant against the ranters.

How can I best describe this book... oh yeah, insufferable.
Every single review I've read of this book seems to go on and on about how unlikable the main character is. I didn't find him intolerable so much as an unfortunate victim of the author's atrocious writing. I admit, he was a neat concept; probably the only decent idea in this entire stack of paper. But, dear god, is Donaldson just about the worst writer I've come across in recent memory. This book reads like it's written by some fresh out ...more

20 percent through and I've seen nothing but exposition-by-folklore and the rape of a 16-year-old girl. I'm all for anti-heroes, but if I have to read any more of Conventant's whine-wallow-pity-me-ANGRYANGRYANGRYRAPEYOU-whinge-whine-self-loathe-pity-me-pity-me-ANGRYANRGYKEELYOU bullshit, I will lose restraint and unwittingly destroy my reading device.
