Funny, how one can grow to like a book so much better the second time around. I reread Bujold's "Curse of Chalion" and loved it so much more than I remembered. This was the first of her works I'd ever read, and I listened to it on audio about a month before my wedding and it somehow failed to make an impression on me.

The Curse of Chalion is classic fantasy--royalty, palaces, romance, horses, sword play, and more. If that's not your usual thing, will take a bit to get into it. Yet once the story gets going, it's hard not to engage.
The story has demons, religious conflict, curses, ghosts, disgusting Alien I creatures in the belly, matched by good and helpful animal spirits, and more of that as well.

Quite interesting while still easy to read. I really needed something that was not so hard to get through after the "Memories of Ice". This one surprised me in a nice way. Interesting schemes by the main antagonists and a nice use of logic by our heroes and heroines made a nice change and a pleasure to read.
You won't find a complex world of deities and different religions and nations here but you won't be disappointed in the end...i think :) ...more
