This novel is utterly fantastic and mesmerizing. When I first read it, I could feel the very magic in the story surround me, enchanting me all the way. Written in quite a different tone and style from Gaiman's previous prose works, this novel is more in tune with the lyrical, fantastic novels of the pre-Tolkien days. The wording is more flowery and expressive, the magic more prevalent, and well... magical. While I believe that the Stardust graphic novel is better than the regular novel (Charle

i enjoyed this story. it was nice to hear such a different voice in the narration and characters. this is not your typical fantasy story and it was very refreshing. yet, at the same time, it was fairly predictable and i wanted more. i wanted it to be deeper, and to surprise me, but it didn't. though i was happy to get my happily-ever-after ending, it all seemed to come too easily to the characters, and i actually found myself wanting them to do more, to suffer more, horrible though it may sound.

This is a cute book, but the movie works better....I reread the book and then went to see the movie again, and now I'm finding that I didn't give the book enough credit.
Read the book and watch the movie, they're good for different reasons. The book has made up it's own reality that is as believable as anything could be taking place in a magic kingdom. I wanted to see the movie which I'm sure was terrible, but the book was lovely. As a self proclaimed fairy tale expert, this one held to conventions in a clever and unique way. A really quick and fun read.

A beautiful adult fairy tale written in Gaiman's usual magical style.
I would recommend shelling out for the graphic novel with illustrations from Charles Vess which gets 5 stars from me ...more

I'd really like to manage to read this before seeing the movie-- but I may have to give in, since I don't want to miss the movie in the theaters!
