It is hard to figure out what kind of book Dune is. First, let’s classify what Dune is not. Dune is not easy; it is not the kind of sci-fi book that tells you about something, or how to feel about the story. A complex story of family rivalry, greed, and the fulfillment of prophecy. Not sure what I can say that has not already been said about this book, but if you want epic science fiction then this is the place to start.

This is another one that I really, really wanted to like, but I just couldn't finish it. The pace is too slow. In the beginning of each chapter we get a quotation (as far as I recall, most of them attributed to Princess Irulan) that spoils important plot points (you would have to be pretty dense not to conclude the future role of Paul with the Freemen).
