No better SciFi story out there
Wish I had read this as a 12 yr old. It would have been wonderful. At 40, while I really appreciated reading this classic, and certainly can see why it's so loved and lauded, I thought that in the context of modern science fiction writing, it left a lot to be desired. Really, my feeling there is about the writing. The story is fantastic--for that alone, it's really worth reading. But the prose, to me, was pretty uninspiring--wooden. The characters and dialog also felt formulaic and less polished

A book that many call the best sci-fi of all time. While I don't agree, it is a fantastic, easy to read book about a boy genius wrapped up in an intergalactic war.

Okay so not normally my type of book, but my friend made me read and I am so glad she did. Non-stop awesome.
