I didn't read this until I graduated from college. I thought fantasy was silly, hard sf only for me. I was desperate for a beach book and my reading life was changed forever. I can't count the number of times I have reread this story. I've read it to my kids and they love it too.

Again, I feel that goodreads should implement half star options.
The Hobbit, the classic tale. I have now finished it for the first time at almost 23 years old. It's a fun tale, but Tolkien's writing and the perspective of it being written by Bilbo just throws me off. As a kid, I'm sure this would be my favorite book, but as is, it doesn't quite stand up to LOTR or other similarly excellent fantasy novels. It was fun to pass the time and I'm glad that I've finally connected the whole series. ...more
