Beauty and the Beast is probably my favorite fairy tale, and this retelling of the tale has been my favorite for quite some time. McKinley gives us a sensible, bookish protagonist, a magic castle with invisible servants, and a sensitive Beast. The journey to the wonderful ending is liberally sprinkled with many of McKinley's own touches, such as a huge library that makes Beauty jump up and down with happiness. A lovely book.

A rather fascinating retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I got lost in this world and how simply told it was, yet also heartfelt.

An enjoyable, quick read. I was hoping for a more flushed out story like her Spindle's End, but I liked it none the less.
