When a young woman is found near death from being brutally attacked by a magic-stealing sorcerer, Yelena finds out just how strong her powers can be. Only she is the one who can stop the woman's attacker from killing again and thus gaining more magical power.
MAGIC STUDY was just as good as the first. The story developed a little bit more. We learned more about Yelena and where she comes from and where she might be headed. The paths that people (Cahil, Leif) were going down became clearer.

I liked this book. Yelena's family was very interesting, and it was fun to see Sita. I think Snyder has set up the next book very well.
Maria Snyder also raises an interesting question about the benefits of a mostly benevolent dictatorship vs. a more democratic society if everyone is cared for in the former but poverty and the related problems still happen in the latter. ...more
