The Witches in Let's All Write STORIES!!!

This wonderful book is told through first-person, so I do not the narrator's name. I shall just call him narrator.
After some thought, I've decided that I will tell you what I liked about the book first, and then write my review. I liked how the book was written, not a soul could resist reading this great story. The illistations by Quentin Blake were awsome; squiggly, but still strait foward. I loved the characters' personalities.

Oaky, here is my summary of The Witches.

The Narrator, a nine year old boy, lives with his grandmother in Norway after his parents are killed in a car crash. His life is that of a normal boy, he has friends and goes to school; but his grandmother is not an ordinary one.
She tells him stories. Wonderful stories...about witches. Real witches, she says, do not wear silly black hats or even capes. They don't ride around on broomsitcks. They look like nice, ordinary ladies.
The Narrator asked the grandother, "Have you ever seen a real witch, grandmamma?"
She replies, "Yes. Yes, I have. I will tell you how to tell apart a real lady from a witch. First, you must always pay attention to..."
And so over the span of a few nights, she tells him how to tell a real human lady apart from a witch.

Soon the grandmother falls ill, and a doctor is feched. He tell them that a "that sea air is just what you need."
So they go a hotel caled Hotel Magnificent by the sea so they get some "fresh air."
While exploring, the Narrator goes into the Ball Room so he can train his pet mice, Willaim and Mary. He trains them behind a screen with Japenese dragons on it.
Suddenly, the doors open and in comes two hundred ladies!
How will he get out? If they see Willaim and Mary, they will surely scream. That's what everyone else did.
But, Narrator decides to stay there for the time being.
His decision could mean that fate of the world.

Narrator learns the the ladies in the room are acutally witches! They plan to brew a potion called Delayed Action Mouse-Maker and turn all the children in England into mice!
The witches find Narrator and, becuase he has seen and heard to much of thier secret plans, he gets turned into a mouse!
Scurrying back to their room, Narrator tells his grandmother everything he heard; and togethr they plan a plan to stop the witches!
How will they do it? Will they even suceed?

There is something to be said for a children's book which actually gives you the heebie jeebies - and not to say that the entire book was like that, but there were definitely moments in this story which use to freak me out as a kid. The witches in the story are virulent awful creatures who seemed even more frightening because they looked like everyone else (with the assistance of wigs and pointy toed shoes!) and yet still be so malicious - annual conferences to discuss how to rid the world of ch ...more
